“Maybe I’ve been living in a daydream
Maybe I’ve been talking in my sleep
If I’ve been awake
Pardon my mistake
But time is running low
And talk is growing cheap”
A scathing indictment of abuse and toxic masculinity, this musical follows the ill fated love triangle of Queenie, Burrs and Mr. Black. We explored the duress that Burrs’ physical and sexual abuse put Queenie under, and her subsequent ploy to publicly humiliate him. However, she finds new ways of living through her intimacy with Mr. Black. Through reexamining the ending and finding a way to absolve Queenie of her past woes, and seeding female empowerment throughout, we produced an epic tale of resilience and hope.
